Born and brought up in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Dr. Samuel Rout completed his education up to Master’s degree (Biotechnology) in Bhubaneswar at the KIIT University in 2009 having finished his Master thesis from Institute of Microbiology, ETH Zurich, Switzerland. Subsequently he continued in Switzerland and completed his Ph.D. (Cell Biology) at the Institute of Parasitology, (University of Zurich) Switzerland, working on to elucidate the reductive evolution of essential organelles in the parasite Giardia lamblia until 2015. Afterwards, he switched to Biochemistry and pursued his post-doctoral studies at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (University of Bern) working on the mitochondrial biogenesis in the parasite Trypanasoma brucei that causes African Sleeping sickness. Finally, after having spent ten years in Switzerland working with researchers from all over the world, actively supervising bachelor, master and PhD students and bringing out nine publications in peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Rout returned to Bhubaneswar and joined the Technology Transfer Office at KIIT.
Dr. Rout brings with him his deep research expertise to Technology transfer Office and is immensely enthusiastic about nurturing novel research ideas in the field of Life Sciences and Biotechnology into marketable products by assisting fellow researchers to raise their technology readiness levels. Furthermore, he is interested in bridging the gap between academia/research and industry to develop a symbiotic ecosystem that would not only result in benefiting both parties involved but also would eventually result in the upliftment of the economy and the Society.
